Our Mentors

REACH Memphis Mentoring Program Overview

The REACH Memphis mentoring program matches mentors with students that have been accepted into the program.  These mentors can choose to follow these students throughout their entire journey with REACH Memphis, through high school graduation and beyond.  The REACH mentoring program is used as a strategy for helping youth in academic studies, home life, social and personal life.  The success of the program is owed to following the tenets of the industry-standard Elements of Effective Practices for Mentoring. To provide fully for the needs of mentors and students alike, the REACH Memphis mentoring program offers multiple mentoring models from which to choose.

My experience as a REACH Memphis mentor has been both challenging and rewarding. Of the challenges I faced, I pray that our young people learn the importance of setting priorities, as well as the value of keeping lines of communication open. I'm hopeful that the wisdom that I impart to the students will help them not only in college but also in life.

Caila Brownlee wasn't a student I was mentoring until we met at a REACH Memphis event, and we had the opportunity to connect. I supported Caila through her high school graduation and her transition to college at Fisk University. We have a very trusting relationship and she feels comfortable enough to share her life challenges with me. Caila has become a little sister to me and is actually coming to my wedding reception this summer.
