Dorcas, a proud REACH Memphis alum from the Class of 1995, began her journey with the organization in 1993 through the Hotchkiss Boarding School program. A graduate of East High School, she went on to earn a Sociology degree from UNC Chapel Hill and a master’s in Public Administration from the University of Memphis, where she is now pursuing a PhD in Urban Affairs. As the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Shelby County Government, Dorcas also serves on multiple nonprofit boards and has been recognized with numerous awards for her leadership and service. She credits REACH Memphis for giving her the confidence and exposure to explore beyond her hometown, inspiring her continued commitment to creating opportunities for future generations.

Jaila Kimbro, a 2023 REACH Memphis and East High School graduate, is thriving at Georgia Tech as a Computer Engineering major. Her REACH experience included transformative summer programs at Auburn University and St. Alban’s School of Public Service, which ignited her passion for healthcare and public policy. At Georgia Tech, Jaila has already built an impressive resume, serving as a Resident Assistant, Student Assistant, and Investment Analyst, while earning accolades like Convocation Speaker and NSBE Region 3 Influential Member of the Year. She credits REACH Memphis and mentors like Ms. Jackson and Ms. Kasselberg, for their support during her college journey, helping her apply to over 20 schools and shape her future.
Marquette Walker

CULTR Proposal Assistant said:
Marquette “Hollywood” Walker, a 2021 REACH Memphis and Middle College High School graduate, is now a senior at Georgia State University majoring in Journalism. From South Memphis to the national spotlight, Marquette has made his mark, becoming Georgia State’s first ESPN sideline reporter, anchoring for AIB Network, and building connections in the sports and entertainment world, including mentorship from NBA star Caris LeVert. A Shawn Carter Scholar and NABJ awardee, Marquette attributes his growth to the foundation and opportunities REACH Memphis provided, sharing, “REACH gave me more than just opportunities, they opened doors to a world bigger than I could have imagined.”
Alumni Engagement & Volunteer Opportunities
The purpose of the REACH Memphis Alumni Advisory Board is to foster ongoing engagement between the organization and its alumni, providing a platform for former program participants to give back, offer insights, and support the growth and sustainability of REACH Memphis.
The board will serve as a key resource for strengthening the connection between alumni and current students by offering mentorship, promoting alumni involvement in programming, and aiding in the organization’s outreach and fundraising efforts.
The REACH Memphis Alumni Advisory Board plays a critical role in enhancing the mission of REACH Memphis by leveraging the knowledge, experience, and networks of its alumni to inspire and support future generations.
