From an early age, Lauran was blessed.  Born in California, it was Bishop Graves who baptized Lauran years before he knew he would move to Memphis and become a Bishop…and years before Lauran found herself in Memphis.  Soon, Bishop Graves was involving Lauran in the work of the CME Church.

As a young child, her gift of music was evident, and the family made sure she had a baby grand piano to play on.  Soon her beautiful voice took center stage and everyone who heard Lauran sing was forever touched.

​

Yet, it was education that stole her heart and for years she taught, connected with, and guided young people.  In the past decade, REACH Memphis was fortunate to have her as our Director of Mentoring.  It was indeed a ministry for her, working to obtain her doctorate in mentoring practices, dedicating herself to ensuring that both the needs of students and mentors were met, and connecting people with grace and ease.  When we think of REACH Memphis, we will always think of Dr. James and her smile, her incredible voice, and her dedication and love of mentoring.

In honor of Lauran, the REACH Memphis team will carry forward her vision of a stellar mentoring program designed to serve our students.  We will miss her…and always remember her. Yet, we know her legacy will continue through the many mentors and students she touched.
